Young mom on the road to success

West Palm Beach, Fla., April 3, 2008 – Hoping to someday help other young women in her now successful path as a single parent, 21-year-old Christine Cottrill is the proud recipient of a $1,000 scholarship recently awarded her at the National Council of Jewish Women’s (NCJW) Palm Beach Section annual scholarship breakfast.
Christine is one of nearly two-dozen young people from throughout Palm Beach County receiving awards for their personal and scholastic achievements in a variety of areas. The mother of 1-year-old Camdyn, Christine is also a success story from the Children’s Home Society of Florida’s (CHS) South Coastal Division’s Transitions Home. The residence provides a safe and nurturing environment for young mothers and their babies to become a self-sufficient, healthy family. After accepting the NCJW Carolyn and Franklin Sibley Award, Christine expressed her gratitude to CHS, explaining that Transitions Home has given her the opportunity to reach her goals and see her true potential.
“Transitions taught me how to be a mom and provided me and my son a safe environment to develop as a family,” Christine says. “I never had that safe and secure opportunity in the past.”
Christine is a full-time student at Palm Beach Community College with aspirations to receive a Master’s Degree in Counseling, specifically in the area of mental health counseling for young women. Her new scholarship will help her along the way to achieving that goal.
