Meet the Carrachers

Jeanne and Keith Carracher consider themselves to be a “regular” couple that loves pets. Unable to have children biologically, Jeanne and Keith chose to pursue adoption and looked forward to providing a loving family to a child from the foster care system. They were open to adopting an older child who loved pets and soon began their 30-hour Model Approach to Partnership and Parenting (MAPP) training, required of all adoptive parents.

Eager to continue their adoption journey, Jeanne and Keith attended an adoption recruitment and match event last December at a Palm Beach Gardens interactive art studio, Go Van Gogh. Adoption matching events provide families an opportunity to meet and interact with children available for adoption while they all participate in a fun activity.

As the couple watched children enter the studio, they saw Destiny, a 14-year-old with an adorable smile. They thought she lit up the room when she walked in. Jeanne and Keith started to help her with a painting project and, the more they talked, the more the couple became interested in knowing about this special young lady.

They soon learned Destiny's heart – she’s determined to become a cardiology nurse. She’s witty and bright, and she loves spending time at the beach, swimming at the pool and riding her bike. But, particularly special for Jeanne and Keith, Destiny loves animals. She has a pet turtle and takes great pride in caring for her little friend. Destiny deeply desired to join a family that shared her passion for pets, and Jeanne and Keith offered exactly that.

A few weeks after the adoption recruitment event, Jeanne and Keith welcomed Destiny into their home. In February, her adoption was finalized and she – and her pet turtle - became an official member of the family. "Without a child, we felt a void in our lives,” Jeanne says. “With a lot of love to share, adoption was our ‘Destiny.’ Adoption is very rewarding – with the understanding that there is a lot of work and patience involved. For families considering adoption, we say stay dedicated, stay positive and go for it! These children deserve a good family.”
