Foster Parent Highlight
For the past 11 years, Eugene and Sally Magee have opened their home to countless children in desperate need. As foster parents, they continue to be motivated by the need for stable, nurturing, loving homes for infants who have been abused, neglected and/or abandoned. Since they began fostering with CHS in 2003, the couple has joyfully fostered 12 infants. They describe their experience as an "absolute delight … the babies bring life into our home, despite their complexities.”
Both Sally and Eugene are now retired. Prior to this chapter of their lives, Eugene worked in the banking industry for more than three decades while Sally raised their children until they were all in school. She then attended vocational school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Ashley, their most recent foster child, was placed in their home last year when she was only 3 days old. Eugene and Sally enjoyed giving this precious child all the love, attention and support she needed. Ashley was placed with her adoptive family one year later after a birthday party held by the Magees. They describe her as "a little gift from God, who is always cheerful and always laughing."
If you’re interested in opening your home to children like Ashley, consider becoming a foster parent. CHS offers the Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting (MAPP) class, a training course to prepare adults to become foster parents. For more information, call Jessica Samuels on our foster parent recruitment line at (954) 453-6437. Jessica can answer your questions and share with you all the information you need to get started.
As of 2009, Florida legislature states that any child newborn to 5 years old removed from his or her home due to abuse, neglect or abandonment goes directly into foster care. This has tremendously increased the need of quality foster parents and homes.
