Broward IRONMAN competes for a cause
Release date: 2/24/2009
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.,February 24, 2009--Local IRONMAN Alfredo Aguirre raised $1,400 through sponsorships during his recent competition. He donated the money to Children’s Home Society of Florida (CHS), Intercoastal Division, where he serves on the Executive Board. Aguirre has been actively involved with CHS for more than five years and currently serves as the Board Development Committee Chair.
“I constantly thought of my kids, the kids at the shelter and my friends back home who supported me. I did not want to let anyone down. With two miles to go, you can hear the crowds; any pain you have goes away and you get ready for the mandatory run down the runway. I have been waiting to hear 'Alfredo Aguirre from Weston you are an IRONMAN' for three years – it was so loud and I was so happy, giving people high fives that I barely heard my named called. So after three years of beginning my journey to become an IRONMAN, I finished in 15 hours and 58 minutes. I could have not been happier," says Aguirre. "I wanted to support my cause and to show my kids that if you persevere and focus, you can achieve.”
