2011 National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention to Be Held in Ft. Lauderdale, Benefitting Local Charities

The 2011 National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention, "Barbie® and Ken®: Spring Break 1961!" will be held at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from July 27-30, 2011. Nine hundred collectors from around the world will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ken® doll and the 50th anniversary of Barbie® and Ken® as the ultimate couple with four days of events including workshops, programs, competitions, giveaways, auctions, shopping, and even a real beach party!

Doll artists from the Barbie® collecting community as well as designers from Mattel, the company which produces Barbie®, will contribute their work to both a Silent Auction and a Live Auction, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting local Ft. Lauderdale charities. The Silent Auction proceeds will be donated to The Proverello Center, while the Live Auction proceeds will support the Children’s Home Society of Florida, Intercoastal Division.

Although the Convention is for registrants only, the salesroom will be open to the public on Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission will be $8; children under 12 will be $3.

The salesroom, which will occupy the Harbor Beach Marriott’s Caribbean Ballroom in their convention center, will be the biggest Barbie® doll salesroom on earth, stocked with tens of thousands of Barbie® and family dolls dating back to the beginning in 1959 right up through the present with Barbie® dolls designed by Versace, Bob Mackie, and Vera Wang. There will be many one-of-a-kind artist dolls for sale, as well. And everything on display will be for sale by a hundred different doll vendors from all around the world. Whatever your budget, there will be dolls and doll accessories you'll want to bring home with you.

There will be a free appraisal of Barbie® doll items - new and old - offered with each paid admission. If you're not a collector, you may have treasure stored away in the attic or garage.
