Be a part of changing lives.

A man has made at least a start on discovering the meaning of human life when he plants shade trees under which he knows full well he will never sit. -D. Elton Trueblood

You may not be a paid employee of the CHS team, but you can be one of our most important team members in changing the lives of children in your own community. Everyone can do something!

Here are three simple ways you can help a child today!

Give.

We know that in today's tough economic times, many are trying to just survive and take care of their own family. However, for others, they have experienced what it means to truly invest in others and have found great satisfaction in seeing the needs of others met. Whether the gift is $1,000 or $10, each financial contribution is significant in the life of a child.

Financial gifts from friends, foundations and corporations are critical to ensure we continue providing life-changing services to children in need. Support from current funding sources can change at any moment, and we must be ready to fill in the gaps where most needed. We accept gifts of all kinds: cash, stock, bonds, CDs, real estate and more.

Specific in-kind gifts and services are also needed. If you're interested in making a gift of any kind, please contact our office to discuss the current needs in Greater Lakeland.

All contributions to CHS are tax-deductible as allowed by law. CHS is a 501(c)3 private, not-for-profit organization.

Volunteer.

Thousands of generous individuals donate their time and talent every year to assist Children's Home Society of Florida in providing quality care and services to Florida children and families. Last year, more than 5,400 volunteers contributed 96,067 hours of support worth an estimated value of $2,003,007.

Each volunteer's contribution is critical to our success and enables CHS to continue to provide children and families with hope for tomorrow. Current volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:

  • Sorting and organizing donations - Lakeland office
  • Leisure activities with our kids - Sebring area
  • Supervised Visitation program- Lakeland office
  • Internships - We're sorry, but internships are not available at this time. Please check back with us in early 2012!

To volunteer in any of the areas above, please complete the Volunteer Application and either mail or fax it to:

If you are interested in serving on the local Community Development Board, please contact Eliza McCall-Horne at 863-413-3126. Members of the Community Development Board advocate and fundraise on behalf of the division and provide support in reaching out to the communities we serve.

Advocate.

Advocacy efforts are a vital part of our success in protecting children and strengthening families. It's imperative that we advocate for children's services to be properly funded and to promote public policy that protects children, strengthens families and provides opportunities for young adults entering independence. We encourage you to join us in advocating for Florida's children and families all year long. Please visit our Advocacy page for the latest information on legislative priorities.
