The Thortons
After many attempts to have a child on their own with no success, Vaughn and Kristine Thornton made the decision to adopt.
A recommendation brought them to Children's Home Society of Florida. An information session and a couple classes with a counselor quickly eased their apprehension that getting a child locally could lead to heartache.
“We had fears that the birthmother would show up and take the child,” Kristine explained. “Too many Lifetime movies, I guess.”
A year and a half later, the Thorntons got the call that their baby girl had arrived. “It’s very life-changing in the blink of an eye. One day you’re a couple, the next a family,” Vaughn said.
Now, 2-year-old Gianna helps say the blessing at the dinner table every night, and her recent discovery of Play-Doh along with her energizing personality keep Vaughn and Kristine on their toes.
Though busy with work and their daughter, the Thorntons keep in touch with their CHS family and plan on working with them again, perhaps giving Gianna a little brother.
