Jessica's Story

Jessica was 15 when she moved from an unhealthy home environment to Buckner Manor, a former teen girls home at Children’s Home Society of Florida (CHS). Being away from her family was a dramatic change and took a lot of adjusting.

She remembers staff members always being very helpful and loving through many tough situations. “They treated you like their own child and were always there for you,” Jessica says. She graduated high school early and started college at 17.

Jessica aged out of foster care at 18 but returned to CHS five years later to live in our brand new independent living apartments at Buckner Place. Without these subsidized apartments, she would have no where to live. With help from CHS, Jessica can provide a nice home for her 4-year-old son, Adyn.

Jessica is completing her degree to become a Registered Nurse and is currently looking for a job. She is thankful to have the support of the CHS staff and looks forward to living her dream of becoming a nurse.

“I would be a lot worse off without the help of CHS,” Jessica says.
