From CHS to the JSO
La' Tosha Weaver spent her childhood going from home to home of relatives when an abusive environment finally brought her to Children's Home Society of Florida at age 13. At 16, she was placed in a loving foster home. She feels the three years she spent as a resident at CHS prepared her to succeed.
This determined young woman ignores comments from people who tell her she's too young or can't do something. In fact, La' Tosha was not only the youngest in her police academy class graduating at the age of 21, but she was also the first to be hired. "I walk by faith, not by sight," she says with confidence.
La' Tosha is currently a bailiff at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Additionally, La'Tosha moved her sister in with her to assure her sister has a better life.
La' Tosha strives to change people's perceptions of foster children through her own example. She would like to someday talk to other foster children to offer hope that they, too, can achieve their dreams.
